Tender moment

I sat on the floor
in the corner of the upstairs hall
dispensing vitamins and dabs of toothpaste.
He sidled over
hands in his kangaroo pocket
striped, orange
crumbs dribbling down his chest.
He was wearing only one sock.
He pondered me wordlessly
and smiled playfully
and leaned
and kissed me on my forehead
and leaned back
and smiled more widely.
He lifted a finger
studied it
and swiped it across my face
pulling back the cream cheese
that his dinner mustache had left on me.
He licked his finger
and laughed.
