A walk from the parking lot

In your world:

Turn off the car. Grab your keys. Close the door. Look up at the sun. Look down at the pavement. Go fast. Try not to let your whole body melt in a puddle in the summer sun.

In mine:

Turn off the car. Grab my keys. Close the door. Say, "take off your straps." Say again, "take off your straps, love." Say maybe one or forty more times: "hey sweet girl, your brother and sister and I are waiting. Take off your straps so we can get out of the car."

Get a girl to hold a girl to hold my hand. Hoist the boy. Say, "let's go." Say, "oh, love, it's so hot. Let's go, okay?" Say, "this is a parking lot. Don't let go of my hand to pick a dandelion. Really. Even though there's a dandelion in the crack. Don't let go of my hand."

Say, "I do see that cloud! It does look like a butterfly." Say, "I do see that butterfly! It does look like a moth." Say, "I do see that bird. No, I don't know where he's going. Can we walk, loves?"

Say, "no, I don't really know if it was a butterfly. It might be a moth." Say, "please just let your sister call it a butterfly."

Drop hands at the sidewalk. Switch the boy to the other arm. Set the girls free.

Say, "if you're going to kick that rock, kick it where we're going, not backwards, okay?" And say, "and don't kick it at your sister!"

Say, "I see the garbage. Yes, it's litter." Say, "don't touch that, love." Say, "no, don't touch that either." Switch the boy to the other arm again.

Listen: but Mama! It's a bone! And listen: Mama, I want to get it for you. I want to give it to you for a present. And listen: I want you to have it because I love you.

She says: fish bone. I say: discarded attacher to a cheap set of press-on nails?

Try not to let your heart melt in a puddle in the summer sun.

No, I'm sorry. This has nothing to do with my heart. It's a hundred degrees out and it's still my body that's melting. When will they willingly just walk in a straight line? And why do I have a plastic 'fish bone' in my pocket?

And since I promised to keep it forever:

what do you think I should do with it?
