The handwriting project

The thing about being left-handed is that it can make everything a little complicated. I'm not great with scissors. I always ask the lovely husband to slice my bagels for me because the bread knife is only serrated on one side. (Which is why I'm totally going to use my left-handedness to justify a very expensive purchase of knives one day.) As a driver I'm apparently more likely to suffer a fatal car crash because my instincts will cause me to react to something startling or in my way by swerving left and into a retaining wall or incoming traffic.

Life with me can be very exciting, but I'm guessing you already knew that.

I went to a very small elementary school and in whatever year it was that we were supposed to learn cursive, I was the only left-handed student. The school didn't have any left-handed workbooks so I was told to just work out of the right-handed workbooks. I learned to write by tilting my hand, my paper, my very letters all in the wrong direction.

The result? I can't really write in cursive at all and my print handwriting goes in all sorts of directions.

But I like being left-handed, and I like my handwriting. They're part of what make me uniquely me.

(Or maybe my quirks just have an inflated sense of self-esteem. Do you worry about your quirks' emotional well-being?)

So many of you think you know me through my writing voice. Isn't it strange that we're so close and you've never seen my handwriting? Tonight, I'll show you. Here is the exercise:

Write down the following, snap a picture (or scan the document), post it, and tag others.

1. Name/Blog Name
2. Right handed, left handed or both
3. Favorite letters to write
4. Least favorite letters to write
5. Write: The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
6. Write in caps:
7. Favorite song lyrics
8. Tag 7 people
9. Any special note or drawing

And, voila:

The song lyrics are from the Grateful Dead's "Shakedown Street." It reminds me of my hometown.

The hereby tagged are: Shan, jejyaa, Shawna, Nino, Kelly, Inna, Torpid.

And the little face is something I've been doodling forever. He's the face of my quirks (I think). Pin It

I'm a lefty, too. I learned to write in cursive by tracing the letters on transparencies (remember overhead projectors??) my teacher had me put on the penmanship book's pages. And if you ever find those knives, let me know! =>
