Literature, live

We did the coolest thing yesterday. Actually, we did two 'the coolest thing's yesterday, but one story at a time is what I always say to my girls when they simultaneously begin stacking books on my lap.

And I'm not talking about yesterday's cake, although yesterday's cake itself has its genesis in a love of books. E and I had a special Mommy-daughter date: her very first live theater performance. I was so excited. E was excited for an exclusive Mommy-daughter date, but I'm not sure she understood exactly what we were actually going to be doing together.

Waiting for the show to begin, waiting to see what it was all about. Already happy about a big bench.

It was even better than I could have anticipated. It was wondrous. And E was over the moon.

Excuse this bad photograph: there were black lights, dim lights, and no flash allowed. And yet, if you read regularly to kids I bet you'll recognize it:

The child LOVED it. And I have to say, it was a really amazing production. Kudos to the Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia, which I'd never heard of until yesterday, and which I will now track in the hope that we'll get to see more of their work.

All day today, E talked and talked and talked to me about which of all her favorite books she'd like me to take her to see adapted on stage next. So I'm going to say our Mommy-daughter date was a success. Pin It
