(barefoot hide-and-seek)(if you buy a girl a bowl of blackberry ice cream she will turn it upside-down and suck the marrow out of life)
And this was the greatest joy: the girls who screamed about getting in the car, who moaned about leaving, those girls screamed about arriving home. I'm SO HAPPY! E yelled as she danced through the family room. She has planned to burst into her classroom tomorrow morning yelling SURPRISE! She spent her bedtime debating which friends to hug first. L ran around visiting her beloved toys: kissing dolls, draping jewelry, rearranging fridge magnets with glee. And isn't that the best gift of vacation? Not the time away but the knowledge that our everyday is so joyous for our girls?

Absolutely! Yes!
What a glorious wrap-up for a wonderous trip.
Now take it easy, mama.
What a treat that they squealed to be back at home! Katie, my 11-year-old niece, apparently still flings herself on her bed and declares her love for it daily after a month of away camp (it's a really cute bed).
Our family has generous friends with a beach house, too, and I have many treasured childhood memories of being there.
I'm so glad you guys got to get away!
