Do you know what they are?
We've been perfecting our not-Zanzibar cake technique. Today we modified an angel food cake recipe. I was going for the whitest batter possible so our dyes would look vibrant. We mixed our batter by color and as we usually do, we poured it in the pan in concentric circles.
And then something happened. This modified recipe was really good. And E wasn't satisfied with licking the whisk. That imp, she reached in the cake to get just one more taste, Mama.
So I suggested we make a pattern out of where she'd dug into our circles. I reached for a knife. We don't need that, Mama. I'll just put my hand in lots of times.
And she did.
I baked them in disposable tins with the thought that maybe we could take them to the girls' daycare tomorrow and give them to the teachers and have them out of our house. It's been a big weekend. We still have half a pan of double chocolate chocolate chip ganache-covered brownies that we made together.
But the brownies aren't at all purple. So we layered our cakes and cut in for a snack.
Childhood is really fun, even by proxy.
