Why we need newspapers

Last week, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer stopped printing any newspapers and became an online-only publication. The Ann Arbor News is about to do the same. Our local gray lady is cutting weekday sections. But at least the Post still prints the Sunday comics.

The death of print journalism is frightening. I have been working on a book that is almost ready to go to publishers, and I just hope we have publishers willing to publish books. We need books, newspapers, the feel and smell of print. I wonder sometimes if technology isn't going to be our downfall.
